GREETINGS! My name is Mick. I'm the head of DesCha R&D, and I have a pitch to help this poor little account along. I'm taking over this account by the way, on account of ANKi was supposed to take care of this account and didn't. So here I am.

As R&D head for DesCha Studios, let me pitch a concept here, folks.

A competition for original characters. On DeviantART.

I'm thinking of taking the idea from Majormoonie's TODA and expanding it to become an actual free-for-all competition. You'd have it as either an individual competition or a group competition.

This competition would be open to all dA users.

The way they fight is by drawing half of a scene, with their characters doing the most spectacular moves, by a set deadline. Late entries will be considered as a character forfeiting the tournament. The completed work is uploaded (either in PNG or JPG format, that'll be decided later) to the user's dA account, and a tag will be attached to description giving permission for the tournament account to use the image, and a link to the battle page on the tournament acocunt itself. A week would then pass, from which users cast their votes (either by comment or poll), and the votes are then counted using a points system - comments count more than votes. To avoid completely spamming a battle page, only the first comment of any given user would be counted. The points are counted and the winner advances to the next stage, and the tournament ladder would be updated.

As for the prize, well, it would have to be something dA related, so it would conceivably either be a medium-sized print or a one-year dA subscription - both are things that ANKi would want, but can't get through this tourney (he's not allowed to participate).


R&D is prepared to do the following for this competition:

* Prepare and constantly maintain both an external page and a dA account for the duration of the event.
* Interview some deviants for in-character thoughts or interviews.
* Prepare and set up the page that will host this tournament.
* Make it annual, should it be successful enough.

Obviously, the beauty of this competition is that you can cater it to practically any existing fictional world, be it ToDA, some cyberpunk world, or (cough cough) Air Gear.
